Bernard Chiguvare

Is a journalist with a passion for social justice and health equity. Originally from Zimbabwe, Bernard is currently based in Louis Trichardt, Limpopo, where he has spent over a decade highlighting critical issues faced by rural communities in South Africa. Bernard has built a career focused on amplifying the voices of marginalised groups, with a particular focus on addressing the persistent challenges of lack of access to clean water and well-equipped healthcare facilities. One of his most notable achievements includes covering a strike by the Musina community in 2022 over water shortages, which led to the drilling of new boreholes in the area after a visit from the Deputy Minister of the Department of Water and Sanitation. Similarly, his report on Levubu Clinic’s water and electricity shortages resulted in immediate action by the Limpopo Member of the Executive Committee for Health to restore these services. Bernard’s journey into journalism was inspired by his strong belief in equitable access to resources and opportunities for all communities. Witnessing first-hand the struggles of marginalised populations, including during his time working as a gardener in Cape Town, sparked his passion for advocating through journalism. He believes that in a democratic society, no one should be denied basic services such as clean water, healthcare, or education due to systemic inequalities.
