Judith ‘Judy’ Kennedy

Judy Kennedy was born in 1972 and grew up in Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats of the Western Cape. She became involved in student and youth organisations from the age of 14 years old. Judy has been in positions of leadership and has spearheaded campaigns in various sectors that led to for example to the building of the library hall as well as the Multi-purpose Centre in Bonteheuwel. She also was also the chairperson of the Tygerberg youth development council that organised youth across the now City of Cape Town. She was elected to spend 1 year in Northern Ireland to compare youth practice in Belfast and Cape Town this was made possible due to collaboration with Public Achievement Northern Ireland. Judy also led many youth exchanges between the two countries. Judy headed up the youth project at the International Labour Research and information Group. This project focussed on building current affairs groups on high schools in Cape Town, she coordinated a 3-way exchange between South Africa, Brazil and Luxemburg that looked.

She has been involved in activism and popular education for more than 25 years. Her work experience involves developing course material, designing, and facilitating workshops related to political education for activist groups, often with a focus on youth groups. She also has extensive experience in designing and facilitating various Activist Schools, including the ILRIG Annual Globalisation School, Khanya College Winter School, Southern Cape Land Committee Summer School, the Foundation for Economic Justice Activist School in Swaziland, and the Steelworkers’ Humanity Fund’s Globalisation School in Canada. She also has extensive skills in organising the logistics for such activist schools. I am a Certified Life Coach, Holds an Advanced Certificate in Adult Education (Honours level) at University of Cape Town, Adult Education Certificate at University of the Western Cape (UWC), other Course include Master train the trainer. Community relations course with the University of Ulster (Northern Ireland). She completed a course on Trauma Informed approaches to community development work facilitated by R-Cubed.
