My name is Thania Gopal and I thrive in new and creative learning spaces. I have recently completed a Masters degree in Public Health specialising in Health Systems. My research explored how media representations can potentially influence the functioning of the health system (using the Western Cape in South Africa, as a case).
I worked in the corporate sector for a number of years after completing a Business Science degree with Marketing Honours. I am a formally trained journalist and have worked as a health journalist and as a writer and producer in print, radio and broadcast. To a large extent, my work at the Treatment Action Campaign has informed my activism.
I have always taken a deep interest in public health issues, and in particular, the underlying socio-economic factors which drive these issues. I am currently working in communications at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cape Town.
