I occupy many roles beyond my role as a clinician.
Within optometry, I serve as the KZN Regional Representative for members of the South African Optometric Association (SAOA) and serve as the chairperson of the committee tasked to review the role and scope of optometry aligned with the prescribed minimum benefit (PMB) guidelines.
In the broader health care setting, I serve as a board member for a district hospital and as a civil society executive member for the uMgungundlovu District AIDS Council. I serve as a executive member and as the health portfolio secretary for an NGO called the Active Citizen’s Movement.
Here I identify areas of concern, or dysfunction within the district health system with a view to seek possible solutions through group effort and to facilitate the implementation of the same.
