Hombakazi Nqandeka

Hombakazi Nqandeka is an activist with a diverse background spanning agriculture, writing, entrepreneurship, and academia. Holding double master’s degrees in Agriculture Climate Change Transitions from the University of Galway in Ireland and SupAgro in France, Hombakazi has a strong foundation in agriculture and environmental sustainability. As an author, Hombakazi has penned three books: “The Dissonant Rainbow,” “To My Young Self,” and “Don’t Upset ooMalume: A Guide to Stepping Up Your Xhosa Game.” These literary works reflect her talent for storytelling and a profound passion for narrative. Beyond writing, Hombakazi is an enterprising entrepreneur, running Homba Crafts, a Xhosa bead and crafts company. This venture serves as a platform for training and employing young unemployed women from her village, contributing to both economic growth and female empowerment. In addition to her entrepreneurial spirit, Hombakazi actively participates in farming on her family land, cultivating and selling vegetables such as cabbage, potatoes, and spinach. This reflects her practical knowledge and experience in agriculture, as well as her commitment to sustainable food production. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Health Sciences at Stellenbosch University.
