Thembisa Witbooi

Is a labour relations organiser and advocate for social justice based in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. She holds a Diploma in Bookkeeping from Boston Business College and a Certificate in Practical Labour Law from Nelson Mandela University. For over five years, Thembisa has been actively engaged in advocating for equitable healthcare access and social justice in the workplace. Her impact in this field includes her contribution to preventing the closure of Orsmond Tuberculosis Hospital in Uitenhage and the insourcing of housekeeping staff at South African Revenue Service, the reinstatement of seven Department of Health employees unfairly dismissed, and fighting for the permanent employment of Carehealth Workers. Her leadership extends beyond her professional role, and she is currently serving a second term as Chairperson of the School Governing Body of Greenwood Primary School. Thembisa’s commitment to social justice was sparked by her personal experiences with gender inequality at work, where women were overlooked for leadership positions. She envisions a world where systemic inequalities are addressed, everyone has equal access to opportunities, and marginalised voices are heard.
