Is a kidney health advocate, public health communicator, and community health leader based in Bloemfontein in the Free State. With a background in Public Relations and experience across media, radio, and public engagement, her work focuses on advancing kidney health awareness, strengthening patient dignity, and improving equitable access to care within South Africa’s public health system. Her advocacy journey is rooted in lived experience, which has shaped her approach to community-centered health communication and grassroots leadership. Her work began to take focused shape in 2022 following her experience as a stage 5 kidney failure patient and her commitment to strengthening dignity, awareness, and equitable access to care for dialysis patients within South Africa’s public health system. Her areas of focus include kidney failure and dialysis care, public health awareness, stakeholder collaboration, and translating complex health information into accessible, community-driven conversations. Onthatile leads initiatives that bring together healthcare professionals, patients, and communities to promote early detection and strengthen connections between communities and the health system. She hosted the 2nd Annual Kidney Health Wellness Day and continues to use media platforms, wellness events, and partnerships to amplify patient voices and drive engagement. A committed advocate for health equity, she centers issues of unequal access to dialysis, quality care in public hospitals, patient dignity, and system accountability. She envisions a socially just healthcare system where dignity, accountability, and equitable access are realised, and where patient voices play a central role in shaping care and policy.
