Is a human rights and advocacy officer based in Kimberley, Northern Cape. Originally from Botswana, Andile has spent the last five years advocating for the inclusion, protection, and visibility of marginalised groups, particularly transgender and gender-diverse individuals. In his current role, Andile focuses on advocating for the rights of sex workers, ensuring that they are educated on their human rights, and empowering them to protect themselves from discrimination and mistreatment by service providers, including the police. He also plays a critical role in following up on reported cases and facilitating community engagement to address issues of stigma and violence against marginalised individuals. Previously, Andile was a community organiser and leader for Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of Botswana, where he led advocacy efforts for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+) persons in the village of Molepolole. His personal experiences as a transgender man have fuelled his commitment to advocating for marginalised groups, having faced discrimination, exclusion, and violence throughout his life. This drive to speak up for those who cannot has shaped his approach to his work. Andile envisions a socially just world where transgender and intersex individuals have equal access to gender-affirming care, including hormones and surgeries, without discrimination.
