Angel Ntentesa

Is a passionate advocate for social justice and health equity, specialising in oral health rehabilitation. A graduate of Durban University of Technology with a qualification in Dental Technology, Angel furthered her studies in psychology, management, and public health. Born in Mthatha in 1976, she is the Chief Dental Technician at Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital, leading the only government dental lab in the Eastern Cape, serving over 7 million residents. With nearly two decades’ experience, Angel focuses on improving access to oral healthcare in underserved, rural communities, addressing systemic barriers to access to oral healthcare, particularly in rural areas where patients often travel long distances for care. Under her leadership, the dental lab has expanded its services from 12 to over 164 cases monthly, offering essential treatments like prostheses and bite splints. Angel is committed to community outreach, working with organisations like Operation Smile to deliver services to marginalised groups. She has introduced innovations like patient transport vehicles to reduce travel burdens for patients, and she is a passionate advocate for integrating oral health into broader healthcare frameworks. Outside of her professional role, Angel also works as a personal and group trainer, promoting physical and mental well-being.
