Mkhaliseni Mzimela

Is a seasoned activist with over 13 years’ experience advocating for land, housing, and human dignity. As the Treasurer General of Abahlali baseMjondolo, he oversees fundraising, resource management, and organisational efforts. Previously, he served as Chairperson and General Secretary of the Cato Crest Branch for nine years and one year respectively. Mkhaliseni has championed women’s leadership through the “Women Can Do It” campaign and successfully overturned multiple High Court eviction orders, including a landmark Constitutional Court ruling that declared blanket eviction orders unconstitutional. His social development initiatives focus on youth empowerment, running a talent foundation to keep young people away from drugs and crime and help them pursue their dreams. He also leads health and safety initiatives that promote proper service delivery, social cohesion, gender equality, and community well-being. Mkhaliseni envisions a just and equal society achieved through bottom-up development and organised action. He strives for a classless society built on respect, dignity, and equal opportunities for all.
