We are deeply saddened by the passing of our former colleague, Crystal Dicks, who led our programme between 2020-2022.
Bringing a deep experience as a labour union education leader, feminist activist, and thinker, Crystal took on the directorship of the Tekano Programme at a pivotal moment in our organisational journey.

She led with courage, clarity, and a distinctly feminist vision. Under her leadership, Tekano pivoted its programme strategy and ushered in two Fellowship Cohorts at the height of the pandemic—a testament to her resilience, creativity, and commitment to building the political leadership capable of meeting the challenging political moment we are living through globally. She also contributed to deepening our networks, positioning Tekano as a strong and present voice in the global Atlantic fellowship community.
Crystal added political depth to our programme, grounding it more firmly in the struggles and solidarities that define the pursuit of health equity and social justice. Her legacy lives on in the strength and impact of our programme, and in the many lives she touched through her leadership, wisdom, fierce feminist intellect, and ethic of justice.
We join many in mourning her untimely passing and extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her.
Rest in power, Comrade Crystal!
