On the 27th of May, 2021, join the Tekano community and health sector for the documentary series webinar launch of A Quiet Implosion; a documentary exploring the untold narratives of junior doctors in South Africa. The webinar launch will take place at 7pm – 8h30pm on Thursday, 27th of May.

The documentary series follows a day in the life of junior doctors in South Africa, and is an effort to support frontline healthcare workers. Atlantic Fellows based at Tekano, Dr. Cyan Brown conceived the project as part of her Fellowship at Tekano, supported by the organisation.

The webinar this week will feature Tekano Board Chairperson, Dr. Tracey Naledi who will also be joined by Dr. Nicolas Thomson, Dr. Anesu Mbizvo & Dr. Brendan Savary.

The panelists will discuss the themes that emerge from the documentary series; such as the complexities doctors face trying to navigate a challenged health system in South Africa. The documentary deals with issues of mental health challenges that doctors experience, which are often unspoken about, which is why SADAG is joining the discussion to share the support systems they have in place for healthcare workers.

The launch will include snippets of the documentary as well as a photographic exhibition by Dr. Femi Adewuyi. The exhibition gives a visceral look into the experiences of doctors during the pandemic.
